Why Scott Morrison is the worst of men...

I've kind of been holding off on this, almost waiting for the right time to talk about everything that has been happening in Canberra, but I realise now that they will never be a right time. The issues aren't going away (and neither should they) and the conversations will continue to be had as more information comes to light. Not only this, the more the politicians talk about it, the more there is to dissect and analyse. It's grown beyond a background murmur.

This blog post isn't about not raping people or not sexually assaulting them. We know all that. Just like how we know you shouldn't murder someone or rob a bank. Remember, the people who do these things know they are wrong when they are doing them, that's why they try not to get caught. Sexual assault and rape fit into the same category, that being, things you shouldn't do! In fact, imagine a question in the game of Jeopardy!

"Rape, Murder, Armed Robbery"
"What are things you shouldn't do, Alex?" (RIP Alex btw)

We have our rules equivalent of Doctor Who's 'fixed point in time'. You can't change it. That's the way it is. You don't get to revisit that place.

Which leaves us with what I was getting at, that being, the attitudes of our Prime Minister.

The issues with Scott Morrison are directly related to Scott Morrison the person, as opposed to Scott Morrison the politician (who is also pretty vile).

Scott Morrison 'the person' appears unable to relate to the pain and anguish, not just from those directly accusing members of his Ministry or former staffers of his on Party, but to the 50+% of the population who have either been in the same situation, witnessed the same situation, listened to a friend who has been in the same situation or feared they themselves might be the next person to be in that situation. Having said that, when those same people voiced their concerns at the lack of accountability being shown by the PM or pretty much anyone, via a march to the parliament, Morrison again showed his reliance on his politics by not addressing the crowd. Boos look worse than ignoring a problem apparently.

What makes the Prime Minister's response, or lack of, even more problematic, is that he is trying his hardest to make it political. He does this every Question Time when he hints at issues on the ALP side of politics that relate to sexual assault, as if this "threat" will somehow end the protestations by the ALP over the lack of action by the Morrison Govt with respect to their lack of accountability. The Opposition needs to be "very careful when throwing stones in glass houses" or the like. What Morrison has seemingly missed is that Anthony Albanese has been very consistent in his position, so much so, that he has made it clear that he would not be tolerating any such behaviour in his Party. Albanese isn't making this political, he's making it universal, as it should be! Scott Morrison, the person, is so hell bent on never conceding, never being seen to be less than pious in his own brand of morals, that his defence has made the issue partisan. That is a losing position.

What we have learnt here is that Scott Morrison's refusal to personally lose face has put his party on the wrong side of this argument. He could have won folks over by not just stating that he had a zero tolerance position on sexual assault, but also by showing it through his actions, but he hasn't, because Scott Morrison 'the person' is one of those men who says things and then believes that that is enough. Why act when the result of your words via an announcement is generally about 80% as effective as carrying out those actions. After all, he always gets away with it.

Scott Morrison's empathy deficiency is well-established, but is it really a lack of empathy? Is it more an ideology in which you choose who is deserving of your empathy? See, certain types of people are born without empathy, they usually grow up to be serial killers or conmen, occasionally US Presidents, but I'm not convinced Scott Morrison was born without empathy. I believe Scott Morrison has been religiously educated to direct his empathies towards "worthy" folks. Combine this with what appears to have been a history of needing to con people into thinking a certain way in order for him to 'dodge' accountability, and it would seem that Scott Morrison is very deliberate in his actions. He is a survivor, always able to talk himself out of a situation or manipulate the circumstances so that he doesn't suffer the consequences. He has, after all, risen to the position of Prime Minister.

Survival skills plus a very strong faith-based belief in his own superiority, has moulded Scott Morrison 'the person' into a pretty fucking unpleasant individual. But we've all met people like this. You know, the ones who are your best mate up until the point that you do something that they don't approve of which, under normal circumstances, would be ignored or accepted. George Bush said it...you're either with us or against us. There is no way except their way. And what makes Scott Morrison's role in this story even more vile, is that he doesn't actually have any objective, certainly not an objective for the country. It's all about remaining in charge. There's no agenda. There's no working for the public to better their position. It's entirely about having the position and proselytising, sometimes subtley, sometimes not, his moral standards.

The issues before the Australian public aren't that hard to understand. As I stated, don't rape, don't sexually assault, but further to that, it's about listening and believing. If what happens in Scott Morrison's world doesn't align with his faith or his morals, he doesn't listen or believe.

Australians should have this clear in their mind when the next election comes knocking at their doors. Do you want an ultra-religious zealot telling you what is right and wrong, or do you want to be involved in that process as well, a process that begins with a leader who actually listens.

You can't vote for the Liberal Party and get the second option.
Scott Morrison is the worst of men.
