Israel vs Palestine

Hey, why not write a blog about something you know nothing about but which is bound to annoy anyone who reads it?

OK.

Look, the reality is, I think of this blog as both a place for ranting and hopefully a place to be educated or educate, but I never get any feedback, so I assume those of you who read are either completely satisfied with what I say at a level where you might think "yeah, that llama has put it in reasonably average terms for which I am partially grateful for his mediocre views" or "what the hell? I don't agree with that at all, but at a level which requires non-input in a commenting sense," both of which are okay.

Now down to Israel vs Palestine, and it's hard for me to comment on this from a perspective of accepting one sides position on their religious views because I simply don't agree with either. When it comes to the religious views of Israelis and Palestinians, I think they're equally mistaken. They may well find their distaste for me, as an non-believer, to be a common ground. See, I'm bringing people together already.

Yeah I know, I'm not.

It's just such a hard thing to comprehend hating one group who lives next door because they have a different religion. I mean, my neighbours are Jehovah's Witnesses, sure, I think they're part of a dangerous death cult, but I don't hate them. I'm aware that they have been indoctrinated into a way of thinking, a way of seeing the world which may or may not have been passed down by their own parents and thus is harder to dismiss or let go of altogether. So now imagine your whole country is like that!

To me, engaging with someone with religion is like engaging with someone who supports the Collingwood AFL Football Club. I don't hold it against them, but I'm aware that they are different to me and that at some point, there will be some views or opinions that they present that will make me internally roll my eyes, if that's even possible.

I'm judging, just like they may judge me for wearing a t-shirt with a llama on it.

Anyway, I digress.

Accepting the whole religious issues they have, I'm currently looking at the fighting going on in and around Gaza (just to be different) and wondering, what the hell is going on THIS time? Luckily, I asked on Twitter and some very smart people reminded me that there are elections going on for both places.

We have our answers.

Like most fights, and I'm going to be crass and gross in my generalisations, it's all about men waving their dicks about, trying to prove they are the biggest man and how they are essential for their country etc. The best way to prove what a big man you are is to pick on a "traditional rival". For Israel, Palestinians, for Palestine, Israelis. This should have been the least shocking surprise since the ending of the film, Titanic.

I offer no solutions to these people.
I have no solutions.
But...what if the following happened...

What if Israel, a country which currently has an excellent vaccination program against COVID-19, said this.

"Dear People of Gaza, in the spirit of being a good neighbour, we wish to cease all attacks and retaliations. Instead, we offer you free and unconditional vaccine access for your people. It is what God would want, it is what Allah would want. We may not agree on many things, but we all benefit from eradication of the virus."

A modern day 'Christmas Truce' if you will. A cease in fighting to remind each other to be human for a period of time.

Imagine if someone was big enough to stop waving their dicks for a moment and offer their hand (not the one that was holding their dick) in a time of global need?
